Burghley was built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587, and is still lived in by his descendants. The main part of the house has 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors, as well as more than 80 lesser rooms. Surrounded by historic parkland laid out by Capability Brown.

The Gardens of Surprise Admission charges apply daily from 31st March to 28th October. Adults £6.00, Children (over 5yrs) £5.00, Adult Season Ticket £18.00, Family Season Ticket £40.00. (Free admission with House Tickets)
