Public funds (22/05/07)

Under the Immigration Rules, if you want to travel to the UK you must be able to support your self and live without claiming certain benefits that are classified, for immigration purposes as public funds. These are:

  • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • a Social Fund payment
  • Child Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • State Pension Credit
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • local authority housing, and
  • local authority homelessness assistance.

You are not allowed to enter the UK or stay as a visitor in the UK to receive medical treatment on the National Health Service (NHS). Information on how you can enter the UK to have private medical treatment is in our Visitors guidance.
